A stunning late 19th century bronze sculpture after Jean Antoine Injalbert, inscribed Injalbert 1890 on the base, from France. An angel or cupid with outstretched wings gently kneels beside a butterfly and a flower. Beautifully patinated bronze with a verdigris finish to the base.
Jean Antoine Injalbert was a prominent French sculptor who won the Prix de Rome in 1874 and later the Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1889. He was made a Commander of the Legion D'Honneur in France in 1910. His works include four allegorical figures on the Pont Mirabeau in Paris as well as a number of other important monuments throughout France.
This bronze can be placed among the more intimate and beautiful works by Injalbert, such as The Laughing Child or the Amour Aux Coulombes (Cupid with Doves). An incredibly tender sculpture which is both monumental and intimate.
