Antique Louis XVI Giltwood Applique with birds and trees, French, 19th Century

A stunning, carved, gilt-wood appliqué with birds and trees from France, 19th Century, in the style of Louis XVI.
This beautifully carved piece features an undulating ribbon drop with branches of laurel leaves surrounding a central group with two birds and a crossed quiver, arrow and bow. Beautifully carved and in near mint condition. The two birds emerge out of the foliage with a lovely three dimensional depth, and the intersected diagonal lines of the bow and quiver give this carving a truly dynamic energy. Gilded in a soft, warm gold with undertones of red, a finish that looks stunning in all kinds of light and on any background.
A truly exceptional decorative addition to any interior.
